I’ve never worn safety boots since writing doesn’t required steel-toed footwear, but with a big move coming up, I was happy to lug boxes and furniture for a few days wearing Blundstone’s Black Safety Ankle Boots (#142).
Right out of the box the boots felt comfortable, and I didn’t need any break-in time. The Black Safety Ankle Boots were also surprisingly lightweight for work boots. I like the 6″ height, and the think ankle padding that allowed me to cinch the laces tight and keep the ankle support comfortable.
I’m normally a fan of heavy boots since I have a bad foot that needs lots of support, but the thick TPU sole gave me the best of both worlds: excellent support and stability in a lightweight boot. I love the rounded toe box that kept my large, Frodo-like feet very happy, even after hours on my feet.
Blundstone’s Black Safety Ankle Boots are built on a different last than their popular pull-on boots, which is kind of nice for people like me with wide feet. I’m normally a EE in men’s boots, and actually found these boots a bit too wide. I took care of that by wearing extra thick socks.
[details_box]The water-resistant leather uppers look nice and smooth without being shiny. I like that the logo placement is pretty subtle; there’s one on the heel and another on the tongue of the boot. (Check out our review of Blundstone’s fashionable red-soled black boots!)
Available in AU sizes 5-13 (I’m a US men’s size 9, and found a perfect fit in an AU 8).
Bottom Line: Sturdy work boots that don’t weight me down. The slip-resistant soles give me great traction on a variety of surfaces, and, thanks to a steel shank, excellent support to keep my feet comfortable all day long. It’s an added bonus that the American Pediatric Medical Association gives this boot their blessing!
