How fun is it that an Australian work boot is stylish footwear here in the states? I’m a big fan of Blundstone boots for their fit, comfort, and durability. Now, with the red and black #1316 boot, I’m also a fan for their subtle style.

With red stitching, elastic side panels, and soles, the #1316 boot, part of Blundstone’s Super 550 Series, looks both sporty and right at home on city streets. The contrast of colors give the boot a bit of attitude; I like that. I’ve been wearing my Blundstone boots for a few months, and I couldn’t be happier with them. They were comfortable right out of the box, with almost no break-in time. The leather uppers aren’t rigid, so over time feel like they’ve molded to the shapes of my feet.
I usually wear a men’s nine since women’s shoes are almost always too narrow for my D-EE feet. I read on the Blundstone website that to get a wider fit I should order 1/2 size bigger. I was skeptical, worrying they’d be too long, but found that the size 9.5 US (8.5 AUS) boot was almost the same length as the size 9US (8 AUS) boot but wider. Good thing I read the small print. I’m still a size 9US (8 AUS) in other Blundstone styles.
I love the casual style of Blundstone #1316 boots. I just pull them on, and I’m on my way. No laces to slow me down or to come untied. Surprisingly, the boots fit well. I expected pull-on boots to feel sloppy on my feet, but they are incredibly comfortable. Another bonus: the boots don’t feel too clunky. I happen to like bulky, heavy boots because my feet get sore easily, but I also like when I find the sole stability I need in a lighter, more nimble boot like the Blundstone #1316. Actually, I wouldn’t mind a stiffer, thicker sole because I have an old foot injury, but most people will find the Blundstone sole plenty stable and cushioned. It also has a decent tread so it’s performed well on a variety of terrains: city sidewalks, dirt trails, and wet pavement.
Since Blundstones are designed with work in mind, the soles are oil and acid resistant (that’s always handy!), contain heel cushioning, and come with cushioned foot beds (as well as a second set of flat inserts for adjusting fit). Even with my full-length custom orthotic the boots are fairly deep and high volume, so the flat foot beds work great for me.
For the past two months I’ve worn my Blundstone boots almost every day with skorts, skirts, shorts, capri pants, and jeans. I even wore them to my friends wedding when I was running late and didn’t have time to drive to my storage locker (I was having my floors refinished, so most of my possessions were in storage) to find my fancy shoes. Or maybe I made myself late on purpose so I could wear them with my black ensemble and keep my feet comfy for dancing.
Bottom Line: Comfortable, versatile, don’t-want-to-take-them-off boots that manage to look urban cool even with a splash of color. Like!
